Trouble in Tornado Town

Trouble in Tornado Town is a single-player physics-driven cartoon destruction game where you swell into the most powerful tornado ever seen!

As a Producer, I led Trouble in Tornado Town from a small game jam submission to a successful launch on Steam. This project not only showcased the Abducted Monkeys team’s ability to deliver a unique gaming experience, but also established the capabilities of the studio in the indie game development space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implemented an Agile workflow across an interdisciplinary team of 10 developers, optimizing productivity and ensuring project milestones were met on schedule.
  • Directed QA testing efforts across Windows and Mac systems, guaranteeing a stable and polished game experience for all players.
  • Achieved over 300 sales on Steam, accompanied by positive customer reviews, reflecting the game’s appeal and quality.
  • Oversaw the legal formation of Abducted Monkeys LLC and the drafting of developer contracts.
  • Managed all financial transactions related to the project’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency throughout the development lifecycle.
The Monkeys at MAGFest
  • Showcased Trouble in Tornado Town at major industry events, including Game Developers Conference (GDC), Music and Games Festival (MAGFest), Philly Tech Week, and TooManyGames, increasing visibility and engaging directly with the gaming community.
  • Set clear project milestones, documented bugs, and tracked progress on a Trello kanban board, facilitating a structured and efficient development process.

The Trello board for the project was split into the following categories:

  • To Do: Tasks that were yet to be started.
  • Working: Tasks currently in progress.
  • Blocked: Tasks that faced obstacles or were pending inputs from others.
  • Review: Tasks that needed approval or feedback.
  • Done: Completed tasks.
  • Archived: Tasks that were no longer relevant to the current project phase but were preserved for future reference.
  • Unsure If Needed: Tasks that were uncertain but had potential relevance.

Under my leadership, Trouble in Tornado Town not only resulted in a commercially viable product but also demonstrated my ability to manage complex projects, lead a medium-sized team, and navigate the business aspects of indie game development.
